Meester Bart op TEDxAmsterdamED: 'Teachers should always give students the chance to tell what is on their minds'

De Amsterdamse 'meester Bart' is een van de sprekers op het TEDxAmsterdamED-event , op 10 oktober in het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.  Tot 25 september kun je je aanmelden voor dit unieke evenement dat - net als in 2012 een hele dag - in beslag zal nemen. Toewijzing van deelname geschiedt uiterlijk twee weken tevoren. Ook de 20 sprekers zijn op uitnodiging en door selectie vastgesteld. Het centrale thema is  ‘The Pursuit of Excellence’. TEDxED zal ook via de livestream te volgen zijn. TEDxAmsterdamED (www.tedxamsterdamed.nl) vindt op 10 oktober a.s. plaats in Het Concertgebouw te Amsterdam.

My name is Bart. I am 31 years old and I live in Amsterdam. I happen to have found one of the greatest jobs imaginable. I teach at a secondary school in Amsterdam. The thing I love most about my job is to see my students learn and to see them grow in a variety of ways. To see my students smile whenever they have the feeling they have achieved something. I started to write down the things they say and launched a Tumblr and began to share these wonderful quotes I hear at work. Six months later I was lucky to publish a book with a little bit of me next to the collected quotes over the past two years.

What I will be talking about at TEDxAmsterdamED At TEDxAmsterdamED I want to tell the audience something I hope to see as much as possible in my classes. I think that ‘The pursuit of excellence’ really gives me the chance to tell the people every child at school should be able to show their talents, regardless of what it is they are good at. I think at schools teachers should always give students the chance to tell what is on their minds. I found out that children can say the loveliest things and that we should always listen to the ideas the children come up with. I am given the opportunity to present at TED and I feel challenged to tell the people about my experiences in my classroom and to show education really is something beautiful.
