Opt-out movement: 'Steeds meer ouders houden hun kinderen in de VS weg van gestandaardiseerde testen'

Nickel van der Vorm las een artikel in the Washington Post, over de opt-out movement. Steeds meer ouders in de Verenigde Staten houden hun kinderen weg van gestandaardiseerde testen. Om verschillende redenen. Deze leerlingen worden door het belang ervan onder onnodige stress blootgesteld, naast leerlingen worden ook leraren afgerekend op basis van de resultaten, de twijfelachtige invloed die grote ondernemingen in deze ontwikkeling heeft en het feit dat het curriculum slechts beperkt wordt tot een slagen voor examens. In New York, Washington, Seattle en Oregon zijn demonstraties en worden examens geboycot. Lees verder.

“I’m opposed to these tests because they narrow what education is supposed to be about and they lower kids’ horizons,” said Jesse Hagopian, a teacher at the Seattle school. “I think collaboration, imagination, critical thinking skills are all left off these tests and can’t be assessed by circling in A, B, C or D.” Lees het hele artikel achter deze link.
